The Rio Olympics...where Indian women shone bright and made us proud :)

This year's Olympics is over, and for the Indians, this Olympics belonged to the women.
P.V.Sindhu created history by winning silver at the Badminton Women's Singles. She is the only Indian women to have earned a silver. A laudable achievement indeed, that too at the age of 21.

Then there's Sakshi Malik, winning a bronze in wrestling. She's 23, and from Haryana, where you have the lowest sex ration in India. Breaking stereotypes and defying all comments and snide remarks, she's gone on to achieve her dreams, and make India proud in front of the whole world.

There's also Dipa Karmakar, 23, who's wowed the entire nation by her skills as a gymnast. She may not have won a medal, but her performance has been stunning. She is also only the fifth woman in the history of gymnastics, who has successfully completed the Produnova Vault.

There's also Lalita Babar, rising from a drought affected area and Aditi Ashok, at a mere 18 years of age, who've done the country proud.

They haven't achieved all this in one day. They have sweated and worked insanely hard, defying the opinions of many people who still think that sports are not for women. Now they might be smiling with the whole world backing them up, and they might have been awarded BMWs and cash and houses, but there was a time when no one knew or cared or encouraged them except for a select few.
And so, they've earned the wins and the awards and I can have nothing short of admiration and respect for them.

They've followed their dreams passionately, and they've inspired millions of people, not only girls. They've opened people's eyes and made everyone sit up and take notice of them, in a country where people mostly worship only men's cricket.

And that, my friends, has also been another of their achievements.
